Questions, answered properly.
Freshness, shipping, allergens, wholesale terms and how to read a lot code. If your question is not here, call 303-384-7649.
How fresh is your ground spice, in days?
Every ground item ships within fourteen days of milling and most within seven. We mill Tuesdays and Thursdays and hold no ground inventory beyond a two-week window. The mill date is printed on the label as a plain date, not a code.
What is the lot code on my tin?
It reads CM-YY-XX-NN: Copper Mesa, intake year, spice abbreviation, sequence number. Email or call us with the code and we will tell you the farm, harvest month, intake moisture, mill date and the initials of the operator. We keep those records for six years.
Do you ship to all fifty states?
Yes, from our facility in Golden, Colorado. Orders over $65 ship free by USPS Ground Advantage; below that it is a flat $6.90. We do not currently ship internationally.
How long will it take to arrive?
Orders placed before 2:00 p.m. Mountain on a business day leave within 48 hours. Transit is typically 2–3 days in the Mountain West and 3–5 days coast to coast.
How should I store what I buy?
Sealed, dark, cool and dry — a closed cupboard away from the stove beats a rack above it by a wide margin. Whole spice keeps its aroma for a year or more; ground spice is best inside six months.
Why do your blends clump?
Because there is no anti-caking agent in them. A blend from us is only the spices listed on the label. Break up a clump with a fork; the aroma is the reason for the inconvenience.
Are your products allergen-free?
We mill no nuts, no gluten-containing grains and no dairy in our facility. Mustard, celery seed and sesame are handled in the mill room, so we cannot claim freedom from those three. Written allergen statements are available for any item.
Is anything irradiated or fumigated?
No. We buy whole spice that has not been irradiated or ETO-treated, and we do not treat it ourselves. Cleaning is mechanical: sieving, air separation and hand-picking.
Do you sell organic-certified spice?
Several of our lots are grown without synthetic inputs, but we do not hold organic certification and will not imply it. We would rather describe the farming practice accurately than buy a label.
Can I order by phone?
Yes, and many wholesale customers prefer to. Call 303-384-7649 between 8:00 and 17:00 Mountain, Monday to Friday. Outside those hours leave a message or email us and you will hear back the next business day.
What are your wholesale minimums?
$150 net on a first order and $75 net on reorders, with three pricing tiers depending on volume and schedule. Full terms are on the wholesale page.
Do you offer samples?
Six half-ounce samples free to qualified wholesale accounts, and a paid $28 retail sample kit for home cooks that is credited back against a first $75 order.
What is your return policy?
Thirty days, opened or not. Tell us what went wrong and we refund or replace — no returned goods required in most cases. Details on the Shipping & Returns page.
Can I tour the facility?
By appointment, usually Friday afternoons. We are a working mill on Sweetwood Drive rather than a shop, so please write ahead rather than dropping in.
